WAR IMPACTS GRADUATE

Ryan C. Major chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army after graduating from Towson High School in 2003. He was stationed in Germany with the 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division. He achieved the rank of Specialist and became a squad leader. It was not long before Ryan’s brigade went to Iraq in support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On November 9th, while on patrol, an improvised explosive device exploded near Ryan’s squad. Ryan was critically injured resulting in the loss of both legs along with other injuries that will require extensive continuing surgeries. Ryan was awarded the Purple Heart medal, and is currently at the National Rehabilitation Center in Washington, D.C.
The Ryan C. Major Foundation has been created to help support Ryan and his family during his rehabilitation and to give them the flexibility to explore as many options as possible as they look forward to Ryan’s recovery. Visit the website ryancmajor.com for more information.
NEW NEWS ON Ryan C. Major: On Monday, June 22, 2009 Ryan was given a specially adapted SUV thanks to a nonprofit group headquartered in California. Ryan received a gray Toyota 4Runner at a ceremony at Antwerpen Toyota in Clarksville on Monday. The sport utility vehicle has a lever system that allows Major to work the brakes and accelerator with his hands and steer with his foreams. The ceremony was scheduled to accommodate his recovery from his last operation in late May. He faces at least five more procedures for a variety of conditions.
The vehicle was donated by the "Injured Martine Semper Fi Fund. The fund was founded by Marine wives in Camp Pendleton, CA in 2004 which provides financial assistance to Marines or service members serving alongside Marines who are wounded in combat.
